About Me
I'm a software engineer based in San Francisco. I care deeply about readable code, good documentation, and systems that actually work.
Background
I grew up in Chengdu, studied computer science at Zhejiang University, and moved to the US for graduate school. After a brief stint in academia (machine learning research, very sleepy), I joined the industry and never looked back.
Over the past eight years I've worked at early-stage startups, a mid-size SaaS company, and one very large tech firm. Each taught me something different about building software that lasts — and software that ships.
What I Work On
Professionally: backend infrastructure, API design, distributed databases. Personally: whatever catches my attention. Recent obsessions include Rust, generative art, and home automation that occasionally turns the lights off by itself.
Outside Work
I read a lot — mostly non-fiction, some sci-fi. I run (slowly). I cook Chinese food for friends who pretend it's better than it is. I maintain a small collection of houseplants that are mostly thriving.

I started writing here to think more clearly, share things I find useful, and connect with people who care about similar things. Posts are sporadic but sincere. No newsletter (yet). No ads, ever.
