Hello, World — Why I Started This Blog

April 3, 2025 · 4 min read · Meta

Every developer blog starts the same way: a slightly self-conscious "hello world" post where the author explains, to an audience of zero, why they decided to start writing. This is mine.

The Honest Reason

I've been writing private notes for years — half-finished thoughts about things I've learned, books I've read, problems I've solved. At some point I realised most of them would be more useful if I actually had to finish the thought. Writing in public forces that.

What I Plan to Write About

Mostly software. Sometimes books. Occasionally life. I don't want to be too prescriptive about it — the writers I enjoy most are the ones who follow their curiosity rather than a content calendar.

The best writing is when you're surprised by where you end up.

If I can write one post a month that I'm genuinely proud of, that's a win. Quality over cadence.

Who Is This For?

Future me, mostly. If it's useful to anyone else, that's a bonus. I don't have a target audience; I have a target standard: would I have found this valuable two years ago?

Thanks for reading. More soon.
